Built by Mughal empress Nur Jahan in honour of her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the grand tomb is an artistic marvel known for exquisite marble work and detailing expertise. It departed from the tradition of constructing monuments in red sandstone adopted by Mughal kings, thus paving the path for a new style of white marble architecture adorned with fine lattice work, extensive pietra dura, floral designs and Mughal gardens that had an influence on the making of the Taj Mahal.
