The View Point Undoubtedly one of Kodaikanal’s main attractions, Coaker’s Walk is a narrow but extensive walkway that’s built into the sides of the steeper mountain slopes around the town. The walkway is approximately one kilometer long and affords panoramic views of the adjacent mountains, valleys and plains, the distant mountain ranges and towns, with some sections giving distant views of the Tamil Nadu plains and even towns below.Built as per plans conceived by Lieutenant Coaker in the 19th century, the walkway today has emerged as one of Kodaikanal’s primary tourist centres. With the steep mountain ranges beside the walkway, this is a great place to be a tourist, or any pedestrian, really. After a pleasant and awesome walk down the path, a large observation lounge follows, equipped with powerful telescopes to gaze far across the plains, the towns, and mountain ranges on the distant horizon. Coaker’s Walk provides its tourists an almost unreal experience as they stroll from one end to the other along the promenade, giving you unmatched views of the Kodaikanal landscape. In the early morning you will drift on a dream-like layer of clouds that will be hovering under you and with a clear sky and view you might even see the towns and the Vaigai dam on the plains and mountains beyond. The path is beautified with some vibrant flowers and several lookout points make for great photography opportunities to capture the scenery. This is indeed a wonderful place to be with your loved ones, and especially to witness nature's glory. From the observation lounge at the promenade there is a telescope house from which you get to use powerful telescopes and obtain up-close view of the panorama. As you enter the area of Coaker's Walk you’ll be sure to find several street vendors offering some local delights like handmade chocolates. With its flat terrain and ease of walking, Coaker’s Walk is a good option for families, senior citizens and the young ones to explore. Take a walk along Coaker’s Walk to witness spectacular sunrises, observe clouds as they roll past mountains, and experience vast panoramic views stretched as far as the eye can see.
