Bryant Park

Bryant Park is among the area's most visited and peaceful tourist places . It's a lush, green haven in the heart of Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. The park is located within the  tranquil hills of the Western Ghats at almost  2,100 meters or 6,890 feet above sea level, offering breathtaking views of mountains and forests. The resort covers an unblemished piece of natural beauty spread over 20 acres of grounds with serene surroundings and abundant diverse and exquisite species. Bryant Park must be visited by a nature lover, photographer or travel-goer to dislodge the busy hustle-bustle of their metropolitan life. Bryant Park is named after British Official Clifton Bryant after him, who created Bryant Park during the early period of the 20th Century. It was founded in 1908 with the direction of Bryant, head of the Horticultural Department. It was a concept experiment on the acclimatization of different plant species. It has developed today as one of the prominent botanical parks in southern India. The park was first a botanical garden, which mainly focused on cultivating different species of flora that could thrive in the temperate climate of the place. 

Bryant Park was built on an old pasture and structured according to the concept of providing a wide variety of flora. The British colonial administration and officers  think the varied experiments of various types of plant species through which adaptability may become well versed to those in different kinds of climatic conditions. Bryant Park maintains lush lawns, including ornamental flower beds as well as huge stretches with flowering plants, where many varieties of tourists go around throughout the  year. Due to its quality, Bryant Park features an abundance of flora. This will provide visitors with a rather diversified representation of native and introduced plant species, which thrive extremely well in temperate to subtropical climatic conditions. It allows several species of waterfowl and boat rides  with a walk under the pedestrian bridges crossing the lake, perfect for photographs. 

Stone walkways curve through the park, taking visitors through different sections where the plant species differ. Many walkways even have benches  where tourists can sit and appreciate the beauty. Visitors can walk for hours along various stone-paved pathways that pass through this park, affording views of luxuriant plant life, towering trees, and spectacular landscapes. Nature walks are good ways to explore various corners of the park, though knowledge guides are often on hand to explain flora and fauna in the area. For bird lovers, the park is a better birding spot. Early morning and late afternoon are when visitors can see many bird species that visit the park. The place's cool climate is ideal for many migratory as well as some resident birds. The park features a scenic lake whose tour can be experienced  through leisure cruise within the area where such a view of a water perspective of the park shall be presented to tourists; on the other hand, tourism people  will be able to achieve tranquillity as they view some  aquatic life possessed in the lake. The park is, therefore, an excellent ground for educational tours because most of its staff are well-learned and take tourists for tours, teaching them about various plant species, their origin, and their role in the ecosystem.

1. Kodaikanal Lake: The most visited hill station is Kodaikanal Lake, which one can walk to from Bryant Park. This artificial lake affords the perfect backdrop for boating, cycling, and picnicking by its picturesque shoreline. Surrounded by thick foliage, it presents an exceptional view. 

2. Coaker's Walk: Coaker's Walk is a spectacular cliff-side walkway with fantastic views of the valleys, hills, and plains  close to Bryant Park , about 1 km away. It is a good place for a quiet walk with a wonderful view, especially at sunrise or sunset. 

3. Pillar Rocks: About 8 kilometres from Bryant Park , the dramatic Pillar Rocks is an arrangement of three giant rocks standing vertically. From here, an excellent view of the landscape appears, and one can even indulge in the beauty of the valley and the nearby hills. 

4. Dolphin's Nose: Dolphin's Nose is a famous viewpoint 8 km from Bryant Park. It is known for holding a panoramic view of the valley and even has the form of a dolphin's Nose. Generally, this is trekked by adventure-seekers. 

5. Silver Cascade Falls: This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls,  approximately 8km from the town. Also, it stands 180 feet high. The sight of Silver Cascade Falls  was like that of majestic bodies in monsoon as they were filled full. 

6. Berijam Lake: Berijam Lake is a peaceful and less crowded location, about 21 km  from Kodaikanal. It has a lot of forests around the lake. Therefore, this  place  is ideal  for nature lovers as they enjoy its serene beauty. A person can  have the peacefulness of a silent boat ride or an excursion in this forested space. 

7. Kodaikanal Solar Observatory: This is Kodaikanal Solar Observatory. Kodaikanal Solar Observatory is one of the oldest in India, about 5 km from Bryant Park. It's an interesting experience for all astronomy enthusiasts and might give some insight into the solar system and celestial bodies. 

8. Shenbaganur Museum: Shenbanganur Museum is a flora and fauna museum in the Western Ghats region which is 5 km distance from Bryant Park. Specimens inside this museum consist of botanical collections and birds. This draws the nature and history admirer. 

9. Devil’s Kitchen: Located 8 km  from Bryant Park, Devil's Kitchen is an interesting , spooky place with caves  near Pillar Rocks. A place full of folklore, visitors interested in adventures and local myths will surely enjoy exploring. 

10. Moir Point: Moir Point is 7 km from Bryant Park, which provides an excellent panoramic view of the valleys and mountains. It is an ideal place to sit back and enjoy the tranquil ambience. This place is more open than any other tourist destination in Kodaikanal.

• By Air: The nearest airport is Madurai International Airport at 120 km. From there take a taxi or bus towards Kodaikanal; it takes about 2.5-3 hours. Coimbatore Airport is another at a distance of 175 km. 

• By Train: The nearest railway station is Kodai Road Railway Station at 80 km. From there, take a taxi or local transport towards Kodaikanal, which would take approximately two hours. 

• By Bus: Several government and private buses operate to Kodaikanal from Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai. The major bus stand is 1 Kilometer from Bryant Park. 

• By Road: The tourist destination is linked by various roads to some major cities like Madurai, which is 120 km away, Coimbatore at 175kms distance, and Chennai, approximately at a distance of 520 km using one's vehicle or car hiring a taxi cab to and from the places.
