
Situated about 10 km from the main Darjeeling town, Rock Garden is a nicely designed picnic spot which is a confluence of natural beauty and human craftsmanship. Constructed in and around the beautiful Chunnu Summer Falls, the Rock Garden has over the years gained popularity among the families and nature lovers alike in Darjeeling. Adorned by green hills, varied colorful flowers, and running streams, it stands as a refreshing respite from the crowded city life. A series of levels which are linked with each other with stone stairs and paths, help in exploring the garden which offers a dynamic view of the valley and its environs. Exotically maintained flower beds, artistic bridges, relaxing benches and fountains at different points offer an ideal setting to roam around and relax. The most captivating element of the Rock Garden is the waterfall cascading down the center of the garden. With the gurgling of the waterfall and the cool breeze from the mountains, one can experience a calming atmosphere. It is more spectacular during the monsoons; however the paths can become a bit slippery then. There are abundant places that a shutterbug would find captivating from colourful floral beds to wonderful views of the mountains surrounding the place. A few vendors near the entrance sell delicious snacks and snacks of the Himalayas such as tea. The road journey to Rock Garden is equally an experience to cheris h through the dense forested areas and tea gardens showing you views of Darjeeling that takes your breath away. A tour to the Rock Garden is included in most sightseeing tours of Darjeeling and is usually coupled with the nearby Ganga Maya Park. It is ideal to visit Darjeeling’s Rock Garden during the months of March to June and October to December. During which the weather is pleasant and the beauty of the garden is enhanced to a greater extent. It can serve as a wonderful place to have a picnic or simply enjoy a peaceful day.
