The Nisargadhama is an attractive retreat curved by the magnificent Kaveri River near Kushalnagar in Karnataka . Nisargadhama was constructed mainly to create an abode of peace, which would help develop the region's economy through tourists visiting the park. The banks of the river Kaveri enhance the beauty of this park, and it is one of the most visited places in Coorg. The concept of Nisargadhama was not to let the people of the world see the beauty of the place but to provide something unique with biodiversity. Today, the park stands as an excellent example of conservation efforts. Local flora and fauna are provided for love. Nisargadhama is a 64-acre stretch. Its natural beauty is sure to mix with the amusement activities for tourists. Bamboo grooves, sandalwood trees, and other tropical species are abundant. On one side, the Kaveri River flows by, which makes this scenery even more beautiful. This park accommodates several birds, animals, and plants, making it a good spot for nature lovers.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT NISARGADHAMA:

The best time to visit Nisargadhama is from October to March when the weather is pleasant and the park is full of splendour. For the other half of the year, from June to September, the park turns into a verdant vegetation that is difficult to visit during the heavy downpour that rains are known to bring during their season. The type of warm summer is too hot during March and May; thus, the period during the cooler months   is more attractive to tourists.

Nisargadhama is located in a region of great natural and cultural wealth. You should visit many places around it. 

  1. Abbey Falls: Located 10 km from Madikeri, this is one of Coorg's most sought-after waterfalls  thronged by tourists. The waterfall's plunge is from a height of 70 feet in a lush green environment, which has been made greener due to coffee plantations. 

  2. Dubare Elephant Camp: Dubare Elephant Camp is 14 kilometres from Madikeri and is a wonder of wildlife for all animal lovers. The camp allows taking some time off to associate with the elephants, bathe them, and even take rides on these elephants. The camp enables one to get enlightened about the training of an elephant and its use in forests. 

  3. Raja's Seat: This is a famous viewing point in Madikeri, where one can comprehensively view the valleys and hills. It is much too well-known for its beautiful sunsets. The garden surrounding Raja's Seat is well-managed, making it a peaceful place for a family outing. 

  4. Talacauvery: The source of River Kaveri is situated at an approximate distance of about 48 km from Madikeri. It is sacred by the Hindu race and is a place of outstanding beauty, with hills surrounding it. Here, there is the temple of the goddess Kaveri. 

  5. Omkareshwara Temple: Omkareshwara Temple is located at Madikeri. It is a Lord Shiva temple believed to have been built by combining Islamic and Gothic influences, which makes its architecture unusual. It is one of the most important religious places in that region. 

  6. Iruppu Falls: This is one of the beautiful waterfalls in the Brahmagiri hills, 80 km from Madikeri. Recently, it has become much in vogue among adventure tourists as it is a trekkers' paradise due to its heavy forest cover. During the monsoon season, after the incessant rains, the waterfalls look scintillating. 

  7. Brahmagiri Hill: It is an excellent place for trekking and is situated around Iruppu Falls. The summit of this hill provides a nice view of the Western Ghats and the varied flora and fauna. It has religious significance too. It is one of the most sought-after trekking routes to reach the temple of Iruppu Falls. 

  8. Nisargadhama River Viewpoint: The point near Nisargadhama, concerned with the Kaveri River , is a good viewpoint. Surrounded by dense forests and full of nature's silence, it is the place for solitude-not only within the bounds of nature but also within the human self. 

  9. Coffee Plantations: Coorg is a coffee country; visiting one of these plantations near Nisargadhama can be delightful. You can learn how coffee is processed there, walk through the estates, and enjoy freshly brewed coffee. 

  10. Madikeri Fort: It is one of the oldest forts in Madikeri. The glimpses of history this place gives, especially this region, will be a treat in itself. The fort's architectural style is Indian as well as European. A museum is present, and ancients from the place are kept there. 

HOW TO REACH NISARGADHAMA:

Nisargadhama is  approximately 28 km from the heart town, Madikeri, in Coorg, Karnataka. The nearest airport to this park is Mangalore International Airport, located about 160 km from the park. Mysore is the closest railway station ,  about 95 km from the park. Taxis and local transport can be hired from these places to reach the park.
