
The Madikeri Fort The most significant historic monument located in the heart of Madikeri town is the Madikeri Fort. Built in the 17th century by Mudduraja the Fort was subsequently renovated by Tipu Sultan and the British. Coorg history has been imprinted on the vast structure of the Old Fort that contains some marvelous historical monuments. Currently it houses the local administrative bodies, a local museum and a collection of historical monuments. It is worth to admire the panoramic views of Madikeri town and the surroundings in addition to its splendid photographic potential, which may force one to plan the visits to this site along with places such as the Raja’s Seat and the Omkareshwara Temple owing to its convenient location and excellent climatic conditions.
