Korigad Fort Trek is one of the most scenic and shortest trekking spots of Maharashtra Western Ghats near Lonavala, one of the world-famous hill stations. Korigad Fort is situated at an elevation of approximately 929 meters (3,049 feet) above mean sea level and is a treasure house with nature, history, and adventure and thus the ideal weekend getaway for travellers, history lovers, and explorers in general. The hike isn't really that exhausting, a 45-minute to 1-hour hike to the summit, and it is child-friendly, beginner-friendly, and even family-friendly. You may also start your hike from the foot of the Peth Shahpur village itself and trek on green forest-covered trails, boulder trails, and peaceful hillside ramps and stunning best-of-class valley vistas, the surrounding hills, and beautiful Amby Valley below.
At the top, the trekkers are confronted with a huge fortification wall that encircles the plateau. The fort edge can be trekked, and panoramic views as well as landscape photography points can be reached. Three ancient temples, cannons, and enormous water tanks intended for drinking water on the fort offer the visitor a glimpse into the pomp and history of the fort. Korigad Fort is claimed to have been subjugated by the empire of Maharaj Chhatrapati Shivaji in the 17th century and still stands with what is visible of that royal heritage. The fort itself is especially enchanting during the monsoons when the whole landscape around it is shrouded in mist and leaves. But it is open and accessible year-round. If you are in search of a peaceful nature retreat, a glimpse of the past, or a simple trek to stir your senses, then Korigad Fort Trek welcomes you with a tiring but reviving experience. It's ideal for one who can appreciate Sahyadri fort views without trying a weary climb.
Western Ghats' Lonavala Korigad Fort of Maharashtra was built in the 14th century or approximately the same time. Even though the location from which the fortification was built is not known, the fort was highly popular during the Maratha Empire of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort, being placed on a commanding height, overshadowed the trade route through as well as the valley below. Shivaji Maharaj purchased the Korigad Fort in 1657 for the Maratha Empire by purchasing the neighbouring region of Lonavala. As a watch-tower and defence post of the Sahyadri chain, it had already been used by local campaigns and war campaigns and for holding grounds such as other forts purchased or built by Shivaji.
Under the rule of Shivaji, the fort was in Maratha possession until the early 19th century. The British invaded the fort in the Third Anglo-Maratha War of 1818 as part of their efforts to scatter Maratha fortifications. Even with its strong stone defences and strategic location, the British took Korigad when they set fire to the stashed ammunition in the fort, creating a colossal explosion. The fort is still intact to this day with pieces of history in the shape of two ancient cannons, humongous tanks, and temples constructed in honour of Goddess Korai Devi (after whose name the fort has been named) and other deities. The whole 2-kilometer-long wall on the whole top is traversable, and it provides insight into Maratha war architecture. Korigad Fort is one of the reminders of Maharashtra's ancient glory, which has a lot to say about the bravery and wisdom of Maratha warriors. Its history, packed in every sense, still attracts trekkers, historians, and adventure enthusiasts to the site from all parts of the country.
Aamby Valley City: About a kilometre or so away from Korigad Fort is Aamby Valley City, a luxury township famous for its natural environment, man-made lakes and international standard facilities. While the township itself is closed to the general public, the view of Aamby Valley from Korigad Fort's summit is postcard-perfect pretty, especially in the dawn and dusk hours.
Lonavala and Khandala: About 20 km from Korigad are Lonavala and Khandala, twin hill resorts, their fashionable centers. Sacred for their green valleys, waterfalls, and viewpoints like Tiger's Leap and Rajmachi Point, the towns have much to provoke the visitor to explore places, trek, and dine out, especially chikki home-made sweet preserve.
Bhushi Dam: About a few kilometres from Lonavala is Bhushi Dam, which is probably the most visited rain spot for splashy overflow steps and nature scenery views. People visit there on rainy days to witness the peaceful flowing water and scenery. It is also best suited among the places to sit and relax, and rest after trekking.
Lohagad Fort: Around 25 km from Korigad Fort lies the famous Maratha fort of Lohagad Fort, the dream of all trekkers and history lovers. So renowned because of its haunted entrance gates, vintage buildings, and historical "Vinchu Kata" (Scorpion's Tail) structure, a challenging trek to walk, but none the worse for its workout in history.
Pawna Lake: Approximately 30 km from Korigad Fort is serene Pawna Lake, an ideal campsite, boating, and a lake picnic spot. The serene environment of Tikona and Tung forts has drawn trekkers and nature lovers who are keen to discover peace under the open sky.
Monsoon Season (June to September): Monsoon is most definitely the most unpredictable time to trek up to Korigad Fort. Land is ruled by jade green leaves, road-veiled clouds, and rolling waterfalls. Fort walls can become cloud-veiled with veils, and air becomes dreamy and unreal. The trekking path otherwise becomes dangerous on rainy days, and rain boots, trek and a raincoat become essential requirements. Nature photographer's best time and the best time to enjoy the Sahyadri mountains in all their green.
Post-Monsoon / Winter Season (October to February): It's the best season to trek to Korigad Fort climatically. Post-monsoon freshness still dominates, clear blue sky, soft breeze, and lovely 15°C to 25°C temperatures. Rain-soaked trails never occur, nature appears fine, and the overall experience is excellent. It's ideal for student groups, families, and freshers. It's the best and most scenic time to trek, too.
Summer Season (March to May): Even though the fort is accessible in summer too, sun and heat make the trip slightly exhausting. Day temperatures are over 35°C, especially in April and May. Early morning or evening strolls will be yours if you visit in that time. Even though nature is not green, it's better for those who seek solitude and fewer tourists.

Then, you can get to Peth Shahpur village by local auto-rickshaw or taxi once you are at Lonavala. 40–50 minutes.
