Nishani Motte Trek at Karnataka, Coorg, is in the Western Ghats, a region of history and heritage. The trek is not so associated with a historical background in terms of it, but the location of Nishani Motte holds importance since it is associated with the native inhabitants, local history, and contribution of Western Ghats toward India's biodiversity and cultural heritage. Coorg, or Kodagu, was always a military district for a couple of centuries. The district was governed under the Kadamba Dynasty in the early centuries, followed by the Cholas, Hoysalas, and Coorg Rajas. Coorg was annexed into the British Raj in the early phase of British colonial rule in the early 19th century following a series of wars. Its prosperous past, unique traditions, language (Kodava), and coffee plantations for the region were all developed during the colonial era of history. Nishani Motte, like any other Western Ghats peak, would also have been used by the native tribals to hunt and as a command centre. The dense forest that blankets the trek was and continues to be, inhabited by different clans of animals such as tigers, elephants, and other animal clans of birds, and so this is hence the perfect environment for the aboriginal tribes to reside and thrive on nature.
The journey itself was along the original routes that the indigenous tribes were originally moving through, and the natives were completely enthralled with the forest itself and what it had to offer. Erdelyi believes that well-placed motte made this hill virtually unassailable today. Although there is no historical past documented in history or straight battle for Nishani Motte, previously the rolling steep slopes and heavy cover of Western Ghats constituted a natural stronghold where the Coorgs were shielded against invading armies. The slopes were usually employed as cover and place. Nishani Motte Trek, now, has been a trekking holiday destination, preserving the rugged texture of the place and exhibiting some sort of virgin beauty of Western Ghats. The trek becomes so iconic by itself that it is so much of the geography of the nation and so much of extremely old region culture that it is an oasis of peace for anybody who likes travelling within it.
