Explore and Trek: Munnar's Best Hill Escapes

Explore and Trek: Munnar's Best Hill Escapes

Munnar, in Kerala's Western Ghats, is a scenic hill station famous for its rolling tea plantations, dense layer of mist and fog, and salubrious climate. Located at an elevation of about 1,600 meters above mean sea level, Munnar was the summer capital of the British colonies in the past and still allures visitors with its vintage charm and nature's grandeur. The geographical name 'Munnar' is also said to be from "three rivers," i.e., where the Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundaly rivers meet, further adding to the area’s peaceful beauty. With its beauty, scenic weather, and views, Munnar provides a complete retreat for nature enthusiasts, honeymooners, and adventure sportspeople. Among the common Munnar attractions is its extensive tea plantations. The neatly aligned rows of tea bushes, undulating like hills, create a green blanket, a clear visual treat. The century-old plantations offer guided tours where the tourists can witness the process of producing tea from the stage of plucking to packing. The Tata Tea Museum is one such tourist attraction that provides details regarding the history and evolution of the tea industry in the region.

Munnar

Munnar is also a paradise of biodiversity. Eravikulam National Park, which houses the Nilgiri Tahr that comes under the list of endangered species, is also a trekker's and nature lover's paradise. The park also gains popularity due to the Neelakurinji blooming every 12 years into a magical blue carpet that blankets the hill's slopes. Part of the other natural features include the Mattupetty Dam, the Anamudi Peak, being South India's highest mountain, Kundala Lake, and the Attukal Waterfalls with outdoor as well as landscape watching activities being boating, trekking, and nature walking. To complement its beauty is also the relaxed atmosphere in Munnar together with friendly homely homestays, excellent resorts, as well as indigenous restaurants with native Kerala cooking. The blend of tranquil landscapes and cultural diversity makes it an open resort for relaxation and exploration. Be it the joy of freshly brewed tea among the plantations, unforgettable vistas from a hill station, or indulging in the local flora and fauna, Munnar promises a serene and unforgettable experience. Best visited at any point in the year particularly from September to May Ideal to experience is in reality a gem of South India that welcomes all the guests to submit to its calm and everlasting grace.

Top Station – Unforgettable Retreat along the Perimeter of Kerala

Lying 1,880 meters above the ground level, Top Station is simply one of the most striking viewing points in Munnar with stunning panoramas of Western Ghats and the emerald-coloured valleys underneath. Located near the border of Kerala-Taofofmil Nadu, this place deserves its name well as in the colonial period, it was the highest station by railway in this region. This place is presently a hotbed of nature lovers and adventure tourism. The land is ideal to trek through with roads snaking through green hillocks, shola woods, and vast tea plantations. Off-road driving and mountain biking are also activities that go on here, particularly for people who want to ride across wilderness and uncharted trails. On clear days, even the plains of Tamil Nadu that surround the area can be viewed, and the sight provides a dramatic contrast between the open ground and the hillside covered with green. With its cool breeze, misty environment, and stunning views, Top Station is not only an adrenalin rush, but also a contemplative experience amidst nature's splendour.
