HISTORY/STORY OF HAL AEROSPACE MUSEUM: 

HAL Aerospace Museum is India's first aerospace museum, which is located at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited premises in Bangalore. Established in 2001, the museum Museum is part of the HAL Heritage Centre and Aero Space Museum, and it showcases the growth of the Indian aviation industry and HAL for six decades. The museum houses displays of various aircraft and helicopters, Aircraft engine models, Flight simulators, a mock Air Traffic Control Tower and an exhibit of Indian aviation history. The Museum is maintained by HAL (one of Asia's largest Aerospace companies).

  • Hall 1: Photographs showcasing the growth of aviation from 1940 onwards 

  • Hall 2: Showcases various functions of an aircraft engine. Cross section of various aircraft engines can be seen here 

  • Outdoor displays: MIG-21, Kiran, AJeet, Lakshya and other important aircraft are on display 

  • Library with a rare collection of interesting and useful books related to aviation

  • Adour, the engine used in Jaguar Fighter Jets 

  • Garret, the engine used in the multipurpose Dornier Aircraft 

  • Orpheus, the engine used in Kiran Trainer Aircraft 

  • Pushpak, a two-seat cabin monoplane first used in the 1950s 

  • Basant, an agricultural/utility aircraft 

  • Ejection seat with parachutes 

  • Lakshya, the remotely piloted target aircraft 

  • Marut, a twin-seat, twin-engine fighter-bomber aircraft 

  • Hindustan Jet Trainer developed by HAL for the Indian Airforce 

  • Ajeet, a single-seat fighter aircraft 

  • Dhruv, an indigenously designed advanced light helicopter 

  • Model of a full-size heat shield (the uppermost stage) of a PSLV

  • Entry time: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM 

  • Fee: Rs 50 for adults, Rs 30 for children 

The average time required to visit the Museum is 2 to 3 hours. Also, the Museum stays open on all days of the week from 9 in the morning to 4:30 in the evening. The entire museum complex and heritage site is shielded to transform it into an indoor property.

HOW TO REACH/ LOCATION: 

The Museum is prominently located near the HAL police station, which is 10 km away from the nearest railway station. If heading from the airport, the distance to the Museum is approximately 47 km and might take up to 1 hour and 30 minutes to cover. 

You may take the route from Bellary Road and the HAL old airport road or head from NH 44 to reach the Museum from the airport. It is particularly easy to locate on the map, and any hired cab or vehicle outside the airport will take you there quite easily.
