Ruinsara Lake is located at an altitude of 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and lush meadows, making it a serene and picturesque destination for trekkers.
The trek is considered moderate, with gradual ascents and some steep climbs. Trekkers should be prepared for long walking hours, uneven terrain, and possible weather fluctuations. It is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers.
The ideal time for the trek is May-June and September-October. During these months, the weather remains pleasant, with clear skies and accessible trails. The monsoon season (July-August) should be avoided due to slippery trails and landslides.

The trek starts from Sankri, a well-known base village for several treks in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary. Sankri is accessible from Dehradun, which serves as the main transit hub.
The trek offers stunning views of Swargarohini, Black Peak (Kalanag), and Bandarpoonch mountains. Trekkers pass through dense pine forests, alpine meadows, traditional villages, and scenic river crossings before reaching the glacial Ruinsara Lake.
No, the trek is beginner-friendly. However, basic fitness and endurance are necessary to cover long trekking distances each day.
Trekkers stay in campsites along the route, as there are no permanent lodges or guesthouses beyond Sankri. Tents and sleeping bags are provided by trekking organizers.
Since the trek reaches 3,600 meters, mild altitude sickness can occur. Proper acclimatization, hydration, and a gradual pace help reduce the risk.
Yes, there are multiple water streams and river crossings where trekkers can refill bottles. It is recommended to carry water purification tablets or a filter.
