Adi Kailash is believed to be a sacred replica of Mount Kailash, associated with Lord Shiva. Om Parvat is revered for its naturally formed ‘Om’ symbol in snow, considered a divine sign.
The journey involves moderate trekking and long drives through high-altitude terrain. It requires decent fitness and stamina due to the rugged landscapes and unpredictable weather.
The ideal time is from May to October, with July to September offering the clearest views of Om Parvat. The winter months are inaccessible due to heavy snowfall.
The journey usually begins from Dharchula, Uttarakhand, accessible via road from Kathgodam or Tanakpur, the nearest railway stations. The closest airport is Pantnagar Airport.
Yes, since the region is close to the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Tibet borders, an Inner Line Permit (ILP) from the Uttarakhand government is mandatory.
Accommodation includes basic guesthouses, homestays, and camps in remote areas. Facilities are simple, and it's advisable to carry personal essentials.
Yes, altitude sickness can be a concern as the trek reaches heights of 15,000+ feet. Proper acclimatization, hydration, and slow ascent help in minimizing risks.
Senior citizens with good health and fitness can attempt the yatra, but young children may find it difficult due to the rough terrain and high altitude. Consultation with a doctor is recommended.
Key highlights include Parvati Sarovar, Gauri Kund, Kali Temple, Gunji village, and the breathtaking views of Om Parvat and Adi Kailash.
Basic vegetarian food is available in guesthouses and dhabas along the route. It's advisable to carry dry snacks, energy bars, and hydration packs.
Limited connectivity is available in Dharchula, but beyond that, there is little to no network coverage. Satellite phones are sometimes used for emergency communication.
Yes, you can join the trek to Adi Kailash Yatra. The trek’s difficulty level is moderate and can be attained without someone’s support. Wear robust footwear, and comfortable clothes, and maintain basic fitness to complete the trek.
