Adventure in Mari betta – Monolithic Mountains

Mari Betta:

This place is around 55 kms from Bangalore near Kanakapur of Ramnagar District, one of the ideal destinations for trekking and adventure games both of rock and rope based activities.

This is a rocky destination having monolithic mountains peaks located one over another with Durga temple in the middle.  This place is famous for its Monolithic rock formations, as it lies in the belt of forest area stretching boundary with Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary of Kanakapur belt.

This peak is at altitude of 1300 mtrs above the sea level and has 2 stages while trekking where the trek route takes you from moderate to stepy in the final part with flat walk on the middle near to the Durga Devi temple. Mari Betta in Kannada means Mari-Durga Devi, Betta –Hill.

Initial part of the trek is through the dry land where you need to climb for about 1 hr to reach the temple where you can halt and even this place is surrounded by monolithic peaks offering a pleasant view of the nature surrounding the hill and also rest here to complete the packed lunch and trek to the peak which takes from moderate stepy but it is worth a trek as you have the panoramic view of the Kanakapur city and also on a clear day you can cite the Savandurga of Magadi District

Outings carried out by E2E at Mari Betta comprises of activities like the

Rappelling, abseiling unlike here however it still means a controlled descent down a rock face using a rope. This technique helps you stop wondering how you going to come down after climbing up a high mountain and just with a rope around your waist, descenders and some guts, one can climb down safely. Without complete knowledge of the technique, it may prove dangerous. For beginners in mountaineering, this activity proves very helpful as the participant descends down from a steep slope on a height; he/she overcomes the fear of heights or simply the fear of falling down.
